Mountain Home riders buy sleds for snow an hour away. That drive north toward Fairfield and Soldier Mountain decides most of what we stock, which is why the Ski-Doo rack here leans on the Summit and leaves the trail sleds to order. Our live page says it this way: "Ski-Doo snowmobiles are known for their performance in deep snow and mountain terrain."
Summit Edge or Summit Adrenaline for Soldier Mountain?
Both are Summit mountain sleds, built for what Ski-Doo calls "attacking the most technical terrain, seeking endless powder bowls." The Edge is the more technical of the two, with a full-rod track and Pilot DS4 skis. The Adrenaline trims weight and narrows the ski stance, which suits a rider who spends the day sidehilling through trees more than climbing open bowls.
If you ride with a group out of Fairfield, ask what they run. A matched set of sleds makes the day easier when someone gets stuck.
154 or 165 track, and does the Turbo R matter?
Track length follows the snow you ride. Our Summit Edge stock splits between 154-inch tracks with 2.5- or 3-inch lugs and 165-inch tracks with 3-inch lugs. The 154 turns quicker in the timber around Galena and the Smoky Mountains; the 165 floats better in the deep, open powder that comes after a big storm.
Altitude decides the engine. Ski-Doo rates the 850 E-TEC at 165 hp. The 850 E-TEC Turbo R makes 180 hp and holds that rating up to 8,000 feet, where a naturally aspirated engine starts losing breath. The 600R E-TEC costs less and suits a lighter rider or someone moving up from a trail sled. We have Summit Edges in all three engines.
Can the kids come too?
Yes. The MXZ 200 youth sled runs a 200 cc four-stroke rated at 9 hp, with a tether switch and hand warmers. It lets a young rider learn on the groomed trail while the adults head off-piste.
Sled season ends in spring, and that is the time to bring a Summit in. Clutching set up for Soldier Mountain may not suit a trip to the Sawtooths next year, and our techs can recalibrate it while the snow is gone.
